VIDEO! Kim Weighs In -- "No Excuses: Get Active"

Kim Weighs In: Episode 2
"No Excuses: Get Active"
September 2009

about
Do you hate exercise?  I mean, reaaally hate it?  Or maybe you think you're so fat that you're beyond all hope of ever getting physically active.

Look.  If an exercise-hating gal like me who weighs between 250-300 pounds can dart around a tennis court -- I have hope for you, too.

See how I learned to actually look forward to exercise (gasp!) and how I got past some of my most whiny excuses to stay on my butt.

what a positive video! I hate exercise too, but I love to play, and you really emphasized how much fun it is to play a game rather than focus on competition.

I think that many people become overwhelmed by exercise because they confuse the goal of being more active with the goal of meeting the minimum level of sustained activity required for weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. Kim, your goal was to be more active and enjoy your activity without pain. The plan you chose, hitting some tennis balls, has worked for you. I wonder if many people commit to the more major goal of losing weight/becoming healthy and are discouraged by the requirement of 50 - 60 minutes of moderate exercise 5 days per week. I wonder if you may eventually become motivated enough to want to improve your tennis form and actually take tennis up as a sport. I saw this happen with my running earlier this year. I entered into a charity 5K as a casual jogger and once I crossed the finish line, I immediately wanted to improve my time for the next race! Because of that motivation I become more serious about running and willingly begin to exercise regularly and above the minumum 30 mins. of vigorous activity 5 times a week that is recommended for good health. Good luck in your exercise choices, whatever they may be!
