Kim Weighs In: The Video Series

Episode 4
"Have a Bawl"
January 2010

It’s interesting how when we start to cry, someone’s usually quick to tell us, “Awww, don’t cry.”  But you should.

Giving yourself permission to cry is one of the best things you can possibly do for your health and wellbeing.  Find out why in Episode 4 of "Kim Weighs In" -- and while you're learning why to cry, you might have a laugh, too.

Even though I laughed out loud through much of this, I really like the serious message too. Brava!

I love love love this and I laughed too. Ever since I started therapy for compulsive overeating I have been crying a lot. I think I have cried more the last three months than I have in my entire life. When I tell it to friends they tend to look a bit scared and worried but as you said its such a relief for the body to just have a nice bawl. In the past I have really struggled giving myself permission to do it. I did not acknowledge if something made me sad unless I could rationalize it and I think I was also afraid that if I started to cry I would somehow break. The amazing thing is you don't. I have discovered even if I surrender myself completely to the emotions there is a limit to how much I can cry. Eventually it just stops and then I feel relaxed and move on, maybe sit down and write about what happened but I do not break. I use the movie trick as well and sad sad songs on my IPOD.
